Elastic Flame
Illustrations and album design for an experimental Jazz band. A project stands as a creative marker of my pandemic period.
When I first heard Elastic Tribe’s demo, I was instantly captivated. As a visual artist, I envisioned images unfolding like a kaleidoscope—shapes and colors dancing with each musical phrase, shifting between tension and release.
The chosen motif for the cover is hands. They represent, first, the technical mastery of the musicians—each finger moving with precision, not for competition but for expression. Hands also embody the power to manifest emotion and demonstrate skill. Paired with smoke and flame, they evoke the musicians’ dialogue with something wild and intangible. I aimed for the sketches to capture movement and flow, as if the hands were sculpting time itself. From them, music emerges, while smoke and flame rise as radiant, ever-changing spirits, free and unbound.
It was an honor to contribute to this album. My thanks to Elastic Tribe, Zo Fan, and Fondeur DeSon. In a time of distance and uncertainty, we shared a rare creative journey.
