2022 Beitou, The Plum Garden

To commemorate a period of unique and prosperous history in Beitou where many tavern-restaurants create a special banquet culture to serve the Japanese merchants living in or traveling to Taipei in the 1950s. Elaborate food culture, Nakashi live music, hot springs, and escort girls.

Japanese were fascinated with the hot spring in Beitou. To entertain the Japanese merchants, all the tavern restaurant present their most precious ingredients and complex cooking techniques. However, with the cooks laboring on the dishes, the spotlight of the dinner will inevitably fall on the escort girls. This is where the Taiwanese term "tavern girl" comes from. This piece of history in Beitou gradually ended in the 1980s due to the abolishment of prostitution.
